Simon Spencer designed this study or home office to harmonize with the 1920’s style and atmosphere of the room, with it’s fire place and lightly beamed ceiling.  The desk had a panelled back which was replicated in the panelled recess for the sofa.  Both the desk area and the sofa recess were designed to be fitted with light baffles for lighting over.  The sides of the sofa area and the exposed ends of the desk and the built in bookcases were designed to be panelled and the cornice and pilaster details were sympathetic to the period.  As part of the overall scheme Simon Spencer also designed the radiator cover below the window sill next to the TV alcove bookshelves.

Simon Spencer’s design for this study home office with it’s built in bookcases, is very similar to the yellow study above.  It was also for a pre-second world war, London house, but in this case the client wanted to have glazed upper cupboard doors.  This was achieved in his design by applying the glazing bars to a single sheet of glass being the economical answer to an other wise expensive exercise when made by hand as a single run of matching doors.  The drawer fronts were designed to be panelled to match the pilasters which were replicated in the upper and the lower sections.

Simon Spencer’s design for this office or study was radically different to the two previous examples above and was very time consuming,  detailed and complex.  This very special design was for a new apartment in an old early Victorian London church which had beautifully cut stone work.  The Gothic style he designed for the study was unique.  The office was a serious project for two working from home on a full time basis between travelling to see their clients.  In Simon Spencer’s design he provided plenty of book shelves and storage as well as the two independent working areas.
