Simon Spencer designed the bookcase to have a shallow height but long protruding  cornice for the Study in an early 20th Century style with wide pilasters having narrow rebated central section with chamfered and stopped top and bottom “mouldings” with the upper and lower rails of the doors similarly treated in this home office for his client.

The bookcase next to recess for the sofa with the one above, the has the “dado” rail running through with panelled upper and lower sections behind and to the sides of the sofa in this Study.

These two similar details,  below and above,  show one of Simon Spnecer’s many alternative designs to the traditional flutes which are so popular in his classical style of built in bookcases.   These were part of his design for the Home Office, or Study, for running businesses from home and are part of his range of designs for fitted furniture

Simon Spencer’s minimalist design for a work study cupboard with internal lay out for computer etc. showing the rebated corner continuing throughout with the simple square central panels to the doors which are hung on the very traditional, durable, drawn brass butts (hinges).

Internal filing drawers for foolscap files, hung traditionally with tabs, inside the cupboard doors with the doors hung on traditional brass hinges; occasional drawers with recessed central panels and surrounding cock bead on the edges to the right; with a pencil drawer over the knee hole.  The desk area is deepened with a curved rebated lower pilaster, the upper fluted bookcase pilasters stand on moulded base pediments.
