The bookcase above was designed for an “Arts and Crafts” style of house built at the turn of the last century where Simon Spencer matched the door panels on the bookcase with those of the entrance to the room and the radiator grills were made with a Rennie Machintosh flavour to the design.  The cornice was low and overhung the bookcase with plain pilasters having head and base mouldings to blend with the existing fireplaces in the rest of the house (as shown in the illustration beside the bookcase).

The illustrated fireplace above and entrance door below, were existing and Simon Spencer used these to influence his design of the bookcase with the radiator cases on each end and central cupboards as shown to the left.
